We are pleased to announce the next of our CABS/CPA Seminars:
The Representation of Older People in Ageing Research is a long-running series of seminars run jointly by the Centre for Ageing and Biographical Studies (The Open University) and the Centre for Policy on Ageing. We examine both traditional and innovative methodological approaches to ageing research.
The next seminar will take place on
Friday 14th November (10.00 - 16.00)
at The Open University's London offices:
1-11 Hawley Crescent
Camden Town
London NW1 8NP
Recent research involving older people living with various forms of dementia and their carers has explored many different ways of communicating the experience of living day-to-day with these complex conditions. From art and writing to walking interviews and multi-sensory biographies, researchers have begun to reach beyond more traditional methods. This seminar will allow discussion of some of these newer methods, the advantages and problems in using them, and what comes next.
Dr Richard Ward (University of Stirling)
Negotiating (the) neighbourhood: doing research into the social and physical environment with carers of people with dementia.
Dr Hannah Zeilig (University of the Arts, London)
Mark Making: methodologies
Sarah Campbell (University of Manchester)
Embodying life story work: ‘Multi-sensory appearance biographies’
Dr Jenni Brooks (York University) and Nada Savitch (Innovations in Dementia)
Life story work with people with dementia
Booking is open now via [email protected]
Book early as places are limited. The seminar day costs £40 including lunch.
