At our latest CABS meeting we were very happy to meet three new [to our Faculty of Health and Social Care (HSC)] colleagues with research interests in ageing: a warm welcome to Dr Geraldine Boyle, Dr Jitka Vseteckova, and Dr Mary Larkin.
Geraldine, a Senior Lecturer in Health, was previously at working at Bradford University. She has a special interest in quality of life within Long Term Care settings, focusing on people with dementia, and also everyday life especially in relation to issues of mental capacity. She has received funding from the DH and ESRC concerning the decision-making of people lacking capacity. Geraldine has an interest in gender issues and personal domestic life, with a particular interest in the capacity of carers. She is looking forward supervising PhD students.
Jitka is also a Senior Lecturer in Health, who has previously studied at the Charles University in Prague. Her research has focused on biomedical and psycho-social aspects of ageing: and specifically falls and exercise intervention. She has research funding from NIHR and her preferred way of working has been participative, involving service users - this is one of the reasons that she was attracted to work with us at HSC.
Mary is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Health and Social Care, joining us from deMontfort University. She has also been an OU Associate Lecturer and written tutorial guides and other module materials, so she knows her way around the OU teaching system. Mary's main research interests have been around carers and personalisation (at all ages).
It will be great to woirk with them as we move into 2015: CAB's twentieth year.....
